As part of the BB&T Program on the Moral Foundations of Free Enterprise, The Jesse Helms Center Foundation welcomes Dr. Paul Bonicelli, Provost and Professor of Government at Houston Baptist University, on March 18, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. The lecture and discussion will be held at the Plyer-Griffin Recital Hall at the George A. Batte Fine Arts Center on the campus of Wingate University (Wingate, NC).
Tickets for this event are free, but we do ask that you reserve them online (see link above). A confirmation e-mail or phone call will be provided to those who enter full contact information. WINGATE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO REQUEST TICKETS AND WILL BE SEATED ON A FIRST-COME BASIS.
Dr. Paul Bonicelli is a former Assistant Administrator at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Since its creation in 1961, USAID has been the principal U.S. agency to extend assistance to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty, and engaging in democratic reforms. Dr. Bonicelli will address the role of free enterprise and capitalism in lifting people out of poverty and promoting democracy around the world in a lecture entitled "Democracy is Development: Why Free Societies and Free Markets are the Keys to Sustainable Growth."
In addition to his work for USAID, Bonicelli's previous government experience includes working as a professional staff member for the International Relations Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives and at the Department of Labor’s Bureau for International Labor Affairs. Bonicelli received his doctorate from University of Tennessee and has previous academic experience as an associate professor of political science at Grove City College. He also served as an associate professor of government and dean of academic affairs at Patrick Henry College, joining the institution at its founding.
