Mr. John Dodd
President


John Dodd has been President of The Jesse Helms Center since April of 1994. In that time, the Helms Center has developed an internationally acclaimed lecture series as well as many other innovative educational programs for students and teachers. Under Mr. Dodd's direction, the 23,000 square foot A.J. Fletcher Building, which houses a conference center, archives and the offices of the Helms Center, was dedicated by Lady Margaret Thatcher in April 2001.

Mr. Dodd is a 1975 graduate of the College of William and Mary and has a Master of Arts in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to joining the Helms Center he was President of J & T Dodd of Fairfax, Virginia, a consulting firm to political candidates and not-for-profit organizations. Mr. Dodd has been recognized in the Marquis Who's Who in America 2000 and 2002. He and his wife Teresa have two daughters Katie and Mary.

Mr. Dodd has also been active as a men's lacrosse coach, ending a 25 year coaching career when he stepped down as Head Lacrosse Coach at Wingate University following the 2003 season. Coach Dodd founded the Wingate team in 1996 and in a few short years developed a NCAA Division II top ten squad that advanced to the 2001 NCAA Final Four. For his team's performance in 2001, Coach Dodd was named the Deep South Conference Coach-of-the-Year and Co-Head Coach of the North-South All-Star Game.

Mr. Dodd is Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum of the Lee Institute and serves on the Board of Directors of Turning Point, a domestic violence shelter located in Monroe, North Carolina.

Mr. Dodd co-authored And The World Came His Way – Jesse Helms Contributions To Freedom and has appeared on the numerous television and radio programs in the United States and abroad.

Mrs. Wanda B. Goodwin
Chief Financial Officer
Mrs. Wanda Goodwin joined the Jesse Helms Center Foundation in 1991. As CFO, her responsibilities include all financial aspects of the Business Office. She also insures the Helms Center is properly registered in all states for charitable solicitation in her role as Chief Fiscal Officer. Mrs. Goodwin attended Winthrop University and King's Business College where she received her degree in Business Administration.

She is active in her church where she is Minister of Music, Adult Handbell Choir Director, and Drama Ministry Director. Mrs. Goodwin enjoys teaching piano and volunteers her time to several community and religious organizations. She and her husband, Sam, have four children and five grandchildren.

Ms. Lindsay Hollandsworth

Programs and Communications Manager

Lindsay Hollandsworth joined the Jesse Helms Center Foundation in 2008.  Her responsibilities include planning and marketing the events and programs of the center.  She also helps maintain the website, and is always looking for new ways to share the mission and goals of the center with the community. 

Ms. Hollandsworth is originally from Maryland and majored in communication studies at Wingate University.  She interned with the Helms Center for three years during college and is excited to be back with the center.

Mrs. Jo Jackson
Archivist / Exhibits Curator
Jo Jackson joined the the Jesse Helms Center Foundation in 2000. Her responsibilities include collecting, arranging, describing, and preserving historical documents, including the papers of Senator Helms. She also serves as curator of the Center's exhibits.

Before coming to Wingate, Mrs. Jackson was the University Archivist at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she also taught history courses, curated exhibits, and published in these areas.

Mrs. Jackson received her B.A. in history from Lenoir-Rhyne College, and her Master's in history from University of North Carolina in Greensboro. She and her husband enjoy playing in a blues band, outdoor activities, and songwriting.

Mrs. Carolyn K. Phifer
Development Associate
Carolyn Phifer joined the staff of The Jesse Helms Center Foundation in 1997. As Development Associate, her responsibilities include donor and constituent relations. Prior to joining The Center, Mrs. Phifer worked for the Admissions Office at Wingate University.

Mrs. Phifer graduated from Wingate University with a degree in Business Management. She and her husband Jerry have two children, Michelle and Bradley (wife, Sharon) and three grandchildren Savanna, Phifer, and Charlotte. She is active in her church and enjoys many activities with her family.

Mrs. Marilyn Robertson
Director of Free Enterprise Leadership Challenge
Marilyn Robertson has spent her career as an instructor of accounting at South Piedmont Community College and Stanly Community College in North Carolina . Her responsibilities include curriculum development, planning, and advising students. She currently serves on a statewide curriculum improvement committee for the North Carolina Community College System. Mrs. Robertson earned her Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Pfeiffer College and a Master of Arts in Higher Education from Appalachian State University. In 1998, Mrs. Robertson was recognized as one of 500 highly selective premier educators in the United States as a Sam Walton Fellow.

Mrs. Robertson brings a lifetime of business experience to the Free Enterprise Leadership Challenge. In addition to her teaching credentials, she has been a private business consultant for 30 plus years, and has operated a family-owned utility construction business for the last three decades. Working with FELC for the past several years, she became Director of the Free Enterprise Leadership Challenge in 2004.

Brian Rogers
Chief Operating Officer
Brian Rogers joined the Helms Center staff in 2004. Prior to joining the Helms Center, he was executive director of Defenders of Property Rights, the nation's only legal non-profit foundation devoted exclusively to the protection of private property rights. His main responsibilities at the Helms Center include donor relations and major gifts and he oversees all direct mail and planned giving programs. He is also responsible for all grants and foundation giving.

Brian is originally from Buies Creek, North Carolina and is a graduate of Wingate University. He has spent the last 10 years working in Washington, DC for various conservative organizations such as The Leadership Institute and The Free Congress Foundation. He and his wife Catherine, their twin daughters Ashley and Sarah, and son James reside in Indian Trail. He loves to fish, so if you hear the speckled trout are biting please let him know.

Mrs. LaDonna Snodgrass
Facility and Museum Store Manager
Mrs. LaDonna Snodgrass joined The Jesse Helms Center Staff in March of 2001. She manages the gift shop, provides tours, serves and the facilities rental coordinator, and assists with Helms Center programs. Prior to joining the Helms Center, Mrs. Snodgrass enjoyed a 15 year career in retail.

She and her husband Mike have four children Lauren, Ryan, Colton and Amy Ruth. Mrs. Snodgrass is very active in her church and enjoys watching her children participate in sports.

Ms. Sarah Quigley

Project Archivist

Ms. Quigley joined the JHC team in July 2007 to help process Jesse Helms’ Senate papers.  Her responsibilities include preserving, arranging, and describing the collection, as well as supervising interns working on the project. 

She received her BA in History from The University of Texas at Austin in 2003.  In 2007, she completed her MS in Information Studies with concentrations in Archival Enterprise, Museum Studies and Nonprofit Studies.  In her spare time, Ms. Quigley enjoys reading, attending concerts, and volunteering for community organizations.
