

John Dodd
President
Mr. John Dodd has been President of The Jesse Helms Center since 1994. In that time, the Helms Center has developed numerous initiatives promoting liberty and our country's founding principles. Foremost among these initiatives is the Free Enterprise Leadership Challenge, an intense experiential entrepreneurial training program whose over 5,300 graduates have learned first hand the challenges and rewards of running their own businesses, while being exposed to the principles of free enterprise that are the bedrock of our nation.
Under Mr. Dodd's direction, the Helms Center successfully completed a $5 million capital campaign that led to the construction of the 23,000 square foot A.J. Fletcher building, dedicated by Lady Margaret Thatcher in April 2001, which houses special exhibits, a conference center, a state of the art archives and the offices of the Helms Center.
Mr. Dodd is a 1975 graduate of the College of William and Mary and has a Master of Arts in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to joining the Helms Center, he served as a high school teacher in New Jersey and most recently was President of J&T Dodd of Fairfax, Virginia, a consulting firm to political candidates and not-for-profit organizations. Mr. Dodd has been recognized in the Marquis Who's Who in America and is a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum of the Lee Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Mr. Dodd co-authored And The World Came His Way - Jesse Helms' Contributions to Freedom and has appeared on numerous television and radio programs in the United States and abroad. He and his wife, Teresa, have two grown daughters, Katie and Mary.
Mr. Dodd has also been active as an men's lacrosse coach, serving as Head Lacrosse Coach as Wingate University until 2003. Coach Dodd founded the Wingate team in 1996 and in a few short years developed a NCAA Division II top-ten squad that advanced to the 2001 NCAA Final Four. For his team's performance in 2001, Coach Dodd was named the Deep South Conference Coach-of-the-Year and Co-Head Coach of the North-South Inter-Collegiate All-Star Game.
Brian Rogers
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Brian Rogers joined the Helms Center staff in 2004. Prior to joining the Helms Center, he was executive director of Defenders of Property Rights, the nation's only legal non-profit foundation devoted exclusively to the protection of private property rights. His main responsibilities at the Helms Center include donor relations and major gifts and he oversees all direct mail and planned giving programs. He is also responsible for all grants and foundation giving.
Brian is originally from Buies Creek, North Carolina and is a graduate of Wingate University. He has spent the last 10 years working in Washington, DC for various conservative organizations such as The Leadership Institute and The Free Congress Foundation. He and his wife Catherine, their twin daughters Ashley and Sarah, and son James reside in Indian Trail. He loves to fish, so if you hear the speckled trout are biting please let him know.
Wanda Goodwin
Chief Financial Officer
Mrs. Wanda B. Goodwin joined the Helms Center staff in 1991. As Chief Financial Officer, Mrs. Goodwin is responsible for all financial aspects of the Foundation. Other responsibilities include Human Resources and Charitable Registrations. Mrs. Goodwin attended Winthrop University and graduated from King's Business College where she obtained her business degree.
She currently serves as Minister of Music at Oakland Baptist in Monroe, N.C. In that capacity she presents three major musical dramas each year with the church's Worship Choir and drama team. She enjoys directing handbells, teaching music, and volunteering her time to several community and religious organizations. She and her husband, Sam, are small group leaders in their church and serve on the church council. They have four children and five grandchildren.
Jo Jackson
Archivist / Exhibits Curator
Mrs. Jo Jackson joined the the Jesse Helms Center Foundation in 2000. Her responsibilities include collecting, arranging, describing, and preserving historical documents, including the papers of Senator Helms. She also serves as curator of the Center's exhibits.
Before coming to Wingate, Mrs. Jackson was the University Archivist at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she also taught history courses, curated exhibits, and published in these areas.
Mrs. Jackson received her B.A. in history from Lenoir-Rhyne College, and her Master's in history from University of North Carolina in Greensboro. She and her husband enjoy playing in a blues band, outdoor activities, and songwriting.
Lindsay Hollandsworth
Programs and Communications Manager
Ms. Lindsay Hollandsworth joined the Jesse Helms Center Foundation in 2008. Her responsibilities include planning and marketing the events and programs of the center. She also helps maintain the website, and is always looking for new ways to share the mission and goals of the center with the community. Ms. Hollandsworth is originally from Maryland and majored in communication studies at Wingate University. She interned with the Helms Center for three years during college and is excited to be back with the center.
Carolyn K. Phifer
Development Associate
Mrs. Carolyn Phifer joined the staff of The Jesse Helms Center Foundation in 1997. As Development Associate, her responsibilities include donor and constituent relations. Prior to joining The Center, Mrs. Phifer worked for the Admissions Office at Wingate University.
Mrs. Phifer graduated from Wingate University with a degree in Business Management. She and her husband Jerry have two children, Michelle and Bradley (wife, Sharon) and three grandchildren Savanna, Phifer, and Charlotte. She is active in her church and enjoys many activities with her family.
LaDonna Snodgrass
Facility and Museum Store Manager
Mrs. LaDonna Snodgrass joined The Jesse Helms Center Staff in March of 2001. She manages the gift shop, provides tours, serves and the facilities rental coordinator, and assists with Helms Center programs. Prior to joining the Helms Center, Mrs. Snodgrass enjoyed a 15 year career in retail.
She and her husband Mike have four children Lauren, Ryan, Colton and Amy Ruth. Mrs. Snodgrass is very active in her church and enjoys watching her children participate in sports.
